Wellness Exams for Pets in Carmel

Pets are part of the family, and like the other members of your family, they deserve the best possible health care. At Yellow Dog Veterinary Clinic, we place a strong emphasis on preventive care, which we believe begins with routine comprehensive wellness exams. There are a number of health conditions that can affect a pet’s quality of life, from allergies to diseases to obesity, and it’s our goal to prevent them. That’s why we recommend that all pets receive a wellness exam at least once a year, combined with vaccinations and parasite control, as a means of pre-emptive care.

About the Pet Wellness Exam

The pet wellness exam consists of a nose-to-tail assessment, which allows us to check for any abnormalities that may require advanced diagnostic care (lab work, X-rays, etc.) and/or treatment. The sooner we detect a problem, the sooner we can treat it, which is why it’s so important for you to stay current on your pet’s checkups. The wellness visit is also a time when you can make us aware of any changes in your pet’s behavior or appearance.

A standard pet wellness exam includes an assessment of your dog’s or cat’s…

  • Weight
  • Temperature
  • Skin and coat
  • Eyes, nose, and ears
  • Teeth and gums
  • Heart and lungs
  • Legs and abdomen

Pet Parasite Control

Fleas, ticks, worms…the list of external and internal pet parasites goes on and on. These tiny critters are more than just pesky. Did you know they can cause diseases for your pet, including allergy dermatitis, Lyme, and heartworm? To protect your pet from parasitic diseases—some of which can be fatal without treatment—we recommend that you keep your pet on a preventive product year-round, even if your pet is an indoor pet. Just as with vaccines, we can make recommendations for the best preventive products for your pet’s lifestyle. We offer several flea, tick, and heartworm prevention products in house, for your convenience.
