Before Your Cat or Dog’s Surgery
We recommend withholding food and limiting your pet’s water intake for 12 hours before their scheduled appointment time since nausea is a common side effect of anesthesia. Before your dog or cat’s surgery, we perform a comprehensive physical exam, pre-anesthetic blood work, and any other necessary diagnostic tests to make sure they are healthy enough for surgery. If no underlying health issues are found, we begin prepping your pet for the procedure.
Preparing Your Pet for a Safe Surgery
First, we place an IV catheter, which we use to administer the anesthesia, fluids, and pain medication. Our animal hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment to monitor all of your pet’s vital signs before, during, and after surgery. We also have heated tables and blankets in our surgical suite for your pet’s added comfort.
After Your Dog and Cat’s Surgery
After your dog or cat’s surgery is complete, we stop the anesthesia supply and move your pet to our recovery area, where we continue to monitor them closely. We then contact you with a status update and to schedule a pickup time. When you arrive, our team will provide you with discharge papers, at-home care instructions, and pain medication to aid in your pet’s recovery. If you have any questions at all about any phase of your pet’s surgery, please feel free to contact us. We’ll be more than happy to help!
